A healthy mind is the mother of a healthy lifestyle. Considering the above phrase, now imagine, will you be able to perform efficiently if you're feeling down? Of course not. Now imagine millions of youth, carrying the burden of their academics, responsibilities and insecurities, battling depression all by themselves because mental health is still a taboo. Fear of being judged results in adverse repercussions, a result, and revelation of data by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), more than 1.39 lakhs Indians died by suicide in the year 2019, out of which 67% were youth.
Mental health issues can be of various types, but the two most common disorders are Depression and Anxiety. Every 10th youth is either suffering from depression or anxiety disorder. Poor mental health is still not congenial to Indian society and needs adequate indorsation. Just like every other disease, it has symptoms too. Beware if you're facing any of these symptoms excessively:- feeling too much sad or down, retaliation to concentration, extreme guilt, fears and worries, extreme mood swings, isolation, constantly tired or lethargic, being delusional, hallucinations in extreme cases, being paranoid, alcohol and drugs greed, suicidal thoughts, excessive anger and hostility. This can happen due to peer pressure from society, continuous comparison by parents, insecurities, feeling of missing out, career tension, academic pressure, etc.
Enough of talking about causes and symptoms, let's head up to its permanent aid. Every problem has a solution. If you are constantly having sumptoms, don't hesitate to ask for help. Talk to your nearest therapist, talk freely to your friends, and take medications (only if needed and prescribed by a therapist). Cut off toxic people from yourself. Eat well, sleep well, stay active and practice mindfulness. Be kind to yourself, and practice empathy and gratitude always.
"Life is our greatest virtue, save it, respect it and protect it".
